The intersection between our personal and collective trauma and our ability to lead others is front and center today. Here’s the hard truth. Leadership today is personal. How we lead. How we treat others. How we control information for power. How we compete for status and profile. How we build people up. How we tear people down. Leadership is personal. It always has been and is today, now more than ever.
Join us on September 12 from 3:00-4:00 ET for this introduction to trauma-informed leadership and workplace concepts and practical application.
PREREQUISITE VIDEO: Dr. Emerick's TEDxJacksonville Talk
ABOUT DR. DAWN EMERICK: Dr. Dawn Emerick is a trainer, coach, a TEDx Jacksonville and LinkedIn Learning trainer.
There is nothing more powerful than learning from and sharing space with people with lived, learned, and recovery experiences, self-awareness, and professional application. Dr. Dawn Emerick did the hard work and confronted her childhood and adult trauma after witnessing how her own unresolved trauma and attachment issues were affecting the way she engaged her children, family, friends, peers, co-workers, and teams- especially when her childhood trauma collided with a bully boss.
Over a span of 30 years, she crafted her passion for leadership, and organizational development skills at various private, government, and non-profit organizations in Florida, Minnesota, Washington, Oregon, and Texas. She is the former CEO of two nonprofits and a county and city government executive who has successfully planned, managed and executed several enterprise-wide, complex organizational restructuring efforts using organizational design and change management theory, employee engagement, and qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis. Her leadership and change management approach has produced [sustained] increases in employee morale by up to 10% and company revenue by 17%.
Dr. Emerick is the host of the Leadership Uncensored podcast, a national speaker on organizational design and change management, and a proven transformational leader who will work in partnership with you and your team to find innovative solutions to problems, placing people at the center of the process. She lends her expertise to the Jacksonville Civic Council as their Senior Director for Public Policy Research.
ABOUT LEADERSHIP CONNECTIONS: Leadership Connections are monthly, 60-minute virtual sessions with the goal of bringing ALP members together to learn about and discuss important issues related to leadership programming. The sessions utilize experts, and panelists of your peers, to give you practical applications to take back to your programs. Leadership Connections sessions are free and offered as a benefit to ALP membership.
Spark is a half-day virtual and/or in-person leadership symposium to help leaders of all levels to not just keep up but get ahead in this new and different world. The way we live and work has been forever changed. Learn from those who have successfully navigated this new environment. Hear their “secrets” (hint: sometimes it was failure) and get practical takeaways that you use to advance your own civic and professional work.
The event features an opening keynote from internationally-renown the telos institute, a fireside chat about a new civic vision from those leading the way, multiple breakout sessions on a variety of leadership and civic topics, and more!
You will have access to others who do what you do, face challenges similar to yours, and are continually innovating to move their programs and their communities forward despite current conditions. You can ask others for input on a big or small issue, compare notes, or share your wins. The people in ALP share generously, so you may apply new ideas that could help your program.
Peer Connections sessions can benefit you right away, and through attending you will also experience one small aspect of ALP’s member benefits: being in the room with people who do what you do.
Not that many years ago nonprofit consultants provided training in "boardsmanship," focusing on roles and responsibilities, effective meeting management, and the importance of dedicating time, talent, and treasure to the organization. As in all fields, theories of effective board governance have evolved over the years as new generations of thought leaders address the problems they perceive. Most recently, this has included solutions for inequities that are embedded in traditional models. Join us to review changes in the theory and practice of modern board governance and explore ways to make improvements with your home organization's board of directors.
Facilitated by Cathy Allen, The Board Doctor.
COST:
Individual workshops for the virtual conference sessions are $35 or all sessions (access to recordings if you can not attend live) for $250.
