Lunch and Learn: Rhode Island Waterways, Working Waterfronts, and Seafood
Take the Seastreak Ferry from Providence to Newport, RI, to enjoy a lobster lunch while learning about the Rhode Island waterways and working waterfronts. Enjoy an hour-long boat ride from Providence to Newport while hearing from a member of the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management about Narragansett Bay, the ecosystem, and the towns and culture around Rhode Island.
After docking in Newport, attendees will enjoy lunch at Newport Lobster Shack, a long-time partner of RIDEM and RI Seafood. In addition to operating a delicious seafood shack, they also run a co-op for fishermen to sell their catch. It’s one of the only places this can happen in Newport! See the only commercial working waterfront in Newport.
Getting There & Back:

Getting There & Back:
- Participants are responsible for arriving to the Seastreak Ferry dock on time.
- It's a 1.5 mile walk from the Omni or a quick 10 minutes $8-10 uber.
- The Seastreak Ferry is a public boat, and ALP is purchasing a group of tickets.
- The Ferry will depart promptly at 12:30 PM ET from 25 Portugal Parkway.
- The Ferry will depart Newport to return to Providence at 6:30 PM and will arrive in Providence at approximately 7:40 PM.
- 12:30 PM - Ferry Departs Providence
- 1:40 PM - Ferry Arrives in Newport
- 2:00 PM - Lobster Lunch at Newport Lobster Shack
- Post lunch, time to explore Newport, RI on your own
- 6:30 PM - Ferry Departs for Providence
- 7:40 PM - Ferry Arrives in Providence
- Lobster Bisque OR New England Clam Chowder
- 3 oz Lobster Roll (their specialty!) OR Fish & Chips
- One non-alcoholic beverage
- $48 USD
